Art Ball
THE MOST GLAMOROUS NIGHT OF THE YEAR
For over 65 years, the Dayton Art Institute’s gala fundraising event, Art Ball, is anxiously awaited by our local movers and shakers. I have had the pleasure of creating a logo and branding, and managing all design assets for this event for eight years.
THE PROCESS
The theme changes every year, based on an artwork selected from the museum’s permanent collection. Working closely with the chairs of the event, I create the logo and colors, pulling inspiration from the dominant colors of the artwork, as well as the era in which it was created.

In this case, the painting by Ray Parker, Summer Afternoon, was created in 1957. I decided the font for the logo should reflect the feel of mid-century cocktail lounges.
Once the chairs approved the logo and colors, I got to work, creating all the various print and digital pieces, from ads to brochures, forms, banners and signage. I also maintained a database of required materials and oversaw installation of banners and signs.
